Caring for your Jewelry

Coconut Beads:

Our coconut beads are polished beads made from coconut shells. They are resilient and will last a long time. These can be cleaned with mild soap and water. Pat dry with a towel / air dry.

Hemp:

Hemp is a strong, long lasting material. They can be worn in the water, but if you wish to extend the life of your item we suggest avoiding regular bathing or swimming with the hemp jewelry on. Regular exposure to water creates fuzz on the knotted rope and weakens it. Only wash when necessary. Use cold to warm water to clean.  Pat dry with a towel / air dry.

Shell Beads:

Our "puka" shell beads are polished beads made from clam shells. They are resilient and will last a long time. These can be cleaned with mild soap and water. Pat dry with a towel / air dry.

After extended wear our painted shell beads will deteriorate to it's original white color.

Waxed Cord Necklaces:

Our waxed cotton cords can last for a long time. The lighter color cords can get dirty over time, especially with extended wear. Only wash when necessary. To clean, wash with mild soap. Pat dry with a towel / air dry.

Zinc Alloy Pendants:

We have chrome finish and old silver finishes (will last longer) on our pendants. After extended wear, zinc alloys will change color from oxidation. There are many reasons why jewelry becomes dull or dirty (like moisture from water, sweat, lotions, humidity in the air). Only wash when necessary. These can be cleaned with mild soap and water. Pat dry with a towel.

Lemon Juice : Pour half parts water and lemon juice into a bowl to soak your jewelry in for 15 minutes. Lemon is acidic and should clean off the dirt. If there is still dirt on the piece, rinse and place it back in the mixture for another 5 minutes. Once the dirt is cleaned off, rinse with a little bit cool water and buff dry with a clean cloth.

Toothpaste & Toothbrush : If the lemon juice is not strong enough to remove the grit, a toothbrush and some toothpaste should do the trick. Apply a little bit of toothpaste on the dirty area and brush clean. Once the dirt is cleaned off, rinse with a little bit cool water and buff dry with a clean cloth.

Remove jewelry while in water and avoid spraying perfume or applying creams where your jewelry will have contact. Any contact with perfumes / chemicals will cause discoloration to semi precious metals. This can be avoided by caring for your jewelry as detailed above.
